All of you who guessed that the surprise today would be me announcing an addition or two for our family... bite your tongue!
Sweet Mercy.
There is however, a fun factoid about my mom that those of you who had babies on the brain may be interested in. My mom had babies in 4 different decades. Oh yes ma'am she did.
I was born in the 60's.
My sister Angee was born in the 70's.
My sisters Sarah and Haley were born in the 80's.
My sister Emily was born in the 90's.
By the time Emily graduated from high school, my mom had been doing the mama thing for close to 40 years.
That's one way to have a large family!
Another way is to birth lots and lots and lots o' babies all at the same time. Which brings me to my announcement. Maybe some of you have seen a gal named Kate on the TLC with her 8 kiddos.
Yes, I know she is totally real which totally gets on some people's nerves.
That's why I like her.
Not the nerves part- the real part.
If I had cameras following me around 24/7 with lots and lots of little people all pulling at me, it might get ugly sometimes. No, I take that back. It would get ugly sometimes.
I admire Kate for not editing out the everyday stuff that makes motherhood one of the toughest jobs ever.
So, we heard through the grapevine that Kate reads the P31 devotions. And at the same time, we were looking for a special guest to join us for a Girl's Night Out with KSBJ in Houston, Texas. We were especially interested in a guest that might draw in people who might not ever be interested in a "church" event.
Well, after months of trying to get all the details straight... it's official.
Kate will be joining Renee and I for a night of fun, truth, laughter, and life change. We'll also be having some pretty cool musical guests that night as well. Thank you Aiesha Woods and Jason Catron. We all know music is key to a girl's night out. If it weren't for you, I would have to try and throw around a tune or two which would totally stress me out and make the audience sweat.
And really, there's nothing worse than a sweaty audience.
So, if you live in, around, or near Houston...
OR you simply have a passion to hop on a bus, train or plane- we'd love for you to join us!
Click here to get to the KSBJ website and get all the info you need.
And if you have no interest in this Houston event, please check out my upcoming '09 schedule by clicking here. Holly and I would be delighted to meet you in person!
Simply delighted I tell you!
I always feel like I'm meeting some super star when someone introduces themselves to me and reveals that they are in fact the writer of a blog I enjoy.
What fun!
And while I'm in announcement mode. I am thinking of doing the One Cool Christmas Contest with a Mr. Linky this year. All those interested would think of a cool item to give away on your blog and link to my blog so people could find you.
I would leave the Mr. Linky up for a week; all who wanted to participate would have plenty of time. (Hello... a semi-colon. It's going to be a good day.)
Are you in?
If enough of you comment and say you are interested, I'll post more details tomorrow.
And if any of you have one of those airline buddy passes that you'd like to give away for someone to win a trip to Houston, contact me... oh yes ma'am... contact me.
Happy Tuesday.

I would be interested in the Mr. Linky thing. I'm sure I could find something to give away. ;-)
I cannot wait to see you in IL. Seriously, do you want me to do anything or help out in anyway or pick you up or whatever?
Then, I got to thinking of things I could do: pick you and Holly up from the airport, bring snacks for you and Holly, give a She Speaks plug, help out at a book table because you know I'm a professional at that. I'd offer to stand on my head, but that wouldn't be pretty at all. I really will do whatever. Recite useless tidbits of information that have permanently lodged themselves in my brain like the Purple Cow poem I had to memorize in the second grade....
okay missy, I know that last paragraph was for me. I'll do it but there will be some stiff stipulations. Those passes make me so stinkin nervous. Let's chat!
Paula G.
Lysa TerKeurst & Kate Gosselin & Renee Swope in one place--how COOL!! Can't wait to hear all about it!
That is a cool announcement!
I have no idea what a Mr. Linky is but I sure would be interested. Please do give details.
Lysa,
I did look at your schedule and I completely call dibs on you when you're at Northwestern College in Minnesota in March! But, of course, I will share you with the several hundred people you will actually be in town to see!
That contest thingy sounds fun... I don't know what I'd come up with right now.... haven't even had my coffee yet. But, I will give it some thought!
Seriously, though, I would love to have a CUP OF COFFEE, or lunch, or shine your white shoes (it will be March, so...) or just even give you and Holly a hug (I can make yours quick... I think.)
So consider that a real and official invitation! The college is in the same city as my kids' K-8 school, so it is very much "local."
Yikes, I am already planning... stop me if you know you are completely booked up!
:-) Helen
LOVE>>>>>LOVE>>>>>LOVE all of you guys! What an awesome GNO!
Not sure what Mr. Linky is, but I'm in.
I am a mother of 4...the 2 youngest being 21/2 yr old twins, so we clearly love watching Jon & Kate plus 8. Anything that makes our lives less crazy can't help, but make you smile.

Wow oh wow oh wow. HOW I would love to come to Houston to see you and Kate and Renee, but I don't think it's going to happen. :( I almost hesitate to mention it, but my entire extended family thinks I remind them of Kate--scary, I KNOW! But anyway, I feel lucky to have met you once, Lysa, but I would welcome any opportunity to meet you again. Someday.
I'd love to participate in a Christmas giveaway. Can it be anything? Like, I found a really cool "I heart Troy" (HSM3) mug at the Disney story last week when we were in Chicago. Would that do? :) (Just kidding!) I'll come up with something.
Have a wonderful day!
count me in on the give-away!
I would love to make it to Houston but just don't see that happening....maybe y'all could stop by Dallas on your way out of town!
Happy Holydays Season!
Pamela in TX
I'll do a give away...yes, I will.
We don't have cable, but when I am in a hotel...oh yes, I am watching her to find out what all the "talk" is about. She is a doll. The only thing is that my 2 sis in laws have 10 and 8 respectively, and they had to birth them all individually and for that they are not famous nor do they get corporate sponsors....too bad for them. They should have milked it for all it was worth:) I mean my sis who has 10 kids went 6 years with out a . (you know what I mean)...doesn't that deserve a free Big Mac? hee hee
Count me in~
Shannon
I would do the Mr. Linky thing!
How fun :)
Have a fabulous Tuesday!
Blessings,
Kate :)
I'm in. For sharing the love and for a free trip to Houston to be with this awesome team. ; ) Wow- what exciting news!! You'll be packed out!
I actually guessed right on your announcement! Crazy!
My daughter and I had our Monday night tradition cuddling up last night to watch the lastest Gosselin escapade. We truly heart them.
I told her that you and Kate would be in Houston in January. She said "too bad we live in Dallas." Oh, yet how close we are.
Because we want to see you both so badly, I won't find it beneath me to beg again for tickets. Just 2 - even in the tip top row??
This will be the last of my begging - promise.
Have a blessed day,
Lori J, Texas
Thought I checked my comment before posting...obviously, I meant "latest" instead of "lastest." Just so excited! :)

I"m in!
I'm in - interested in seeing what people give away so I can come up with something!!! Because I'm kind of at a loss at the moment :)
What fun!
1. I'd love to participate in Mr. Linky and do a give-away. I am thinking of giving away two great devotionals (available through P31!) "Jesus Calling" by Sarah Young and "Pierced by The Word" by John Piper, along with some chocolately Christmas treats from my home state of Pennsylvania, such as HERSHEY'S chocolate, PEANUT CHEWS, and TASTYKAKES.
2. I'd be so thrilled to go to Girls Night Out, although it is several states away! I'd have to bring a friend with me (I am afraid to fly!) Maybe we can bring y'all this way!
As if children weren't "accountability tools in the flesh", having a camera follow me around 24/7, well now.....
Thankfully, His gracious, merciful, perfectly loving and just eyes are on us constantly! :)
Can't wait to do the give-away!
I am so in for the Houston event! I love John and Kate plus 8. So does my 3 year old. He will sit and watch with me and never lose interest. I am going to the KSBJ site to check it out. And I would also be interested in the Mr. Linky thing too. Blessings!!!
Oh my goodness...I too am a daughter of a Mother that has children in 4 decades! Starting in the late 60's with me. My Brother in the 70's. 2 Sisters in the 80's. And last but not least...my youngest sister in the 90's! My Mom is an amazing talented person and today is her birthday! I wish her all the best today!
I just finished leading a Wed. night bible study with your book When Women Say Yes to God. It was amazing! We will start When Women Walk in Faith after the first of the year! Thanks for all your "realness"!!
I guessed right - except for the Kate part. Don't know who she is, but I'm not a big tv watcher. Apparently she's cool or you wouldn't have her with you! That's great! I feel like I live in the dark ages entertainment wise sometimes. I just found out that J-Lo had babies. They're probably walking and talking by now, LOL!
Definitely interested on the give-away! I'd love to take part in it. Giving is the *best* feeling!
Lysa-
I'm so glad you included the link to your schedule. I live near Morton IL and will definitely be coming to see you in January! Let me know if you need any help. I don't know Amy Brooke, but I'm sure we could do some good helpin' together! :)
I also would love to be included in the Christmas contest. I know exactly what I'd give away - how fun!
Count me in on the Mr. Linky give away!
Sounds like you girls really will be having all the fun in the Lone Star state; wish I could join you!
I love giving things away - but you are going to have to refresh me on the Mr Linky details.
This will be so fun!!
Anyone want some jewels?!!
The excitement of Houston is awesome!!
See you gals in Texas!
Yahoo!
I'm in, fearless leader. I can send some snow to the winner, along with my giveaway prize. We have nearly a foot on the ground now!!! :-) See ya!!! Karen
I would love to participate in a Mr. Linky thingy! I am such a big fan of yours and a big fan of Renee and a big fan of Kate. I can't believe yall are all going to be together in one place! This is one time I can honestly say I'm happy to live in Louisiana. I'm gonna have to gather up all the girls at church to come see yall! Sorry for all the !!! but I am so excited!
How exciting!! I love the "One Cool Christmas" idea, but I am already giving away a cool Christian CD on my blog currently, when will this event be?
Houston sounds so exciting. Can't wait to hear more.
"Oh I wish I was in Texas...the ocean's no place for a squirrel..."
Sorry--I just had a musical Spongebob Squarepants moment--it's the first thing that came to mind when I read about your GNO! (Except for the squirrel part!)
This sounds like FUN--I can think of a few things I could give someone, so count me in for the One Cool Christmas giveaway.
♥Susan
Count me in! I think I've told you this before, but I actually found you during your Christmas giveaways last year, which led to me starting a blog! So I would love to give something away this year!
Nowhere near Texas, but still praying for an awesome night for all,
K :)
Oh WOW - I wish I lived closer!!!
I've only seen Kate once while visiting my sister - she has cable - we don't. What a great show! I'm sure it will be a wonderful evening.
I have a sister that was born in 1944 and then my Mom didn't have any more children until almost 20 years later when my twin sister and I were born in the early 60's. When we were three years old we were flower girls in our sister's wedding. She was more like a Mom to us when we were younger, but we're the best of friends now.
It would be fun to participate in the Christmas give-away. I've never done that before on my blog, but I love giving things to others.
Have a great day!
Joy
I would do a giveaway! I like watching Kate - we don't have cable so I don't get to very often. I thought I was the only one that doesn't have cable - it's nice to see I'm not!
ah, I'm in South Carolina, a good hop, skip, and a jump away from Texas, I'd be there in a second if I could. It stinks being on a college students budget. lol
Please count me in on the giveaway; it sounds like fun. :o)
Angie
What a fun Girls Night Out!! You really must come to Nebraksa my dear friends! I think I should plan one and see if you'll come. :)
Count me in for the giveaway...was such a blessing to participate last year!
I love Kate & family...so does Gene. I loved the show they read their family mission statement and God was included! So awesome.
Renee...she rocks though. Her alone makes me want to drive the 18hours to get there! :) You ALL rock!
Love,
Lelia
I'm excited about your Christmas give-away. : )
I also wanted to share this cute story about how far Kate's TV Show has come:
My cousin's little boy is in AWANA and has been memorizing Bible verses for Cubbies. When he was asked to recite his verse this is what he said:
"God loved us and sent His son. - John and Kate Plus 8." : )
So cool! Since I commented earlier I have the best Idea for a give-away, and the best Idea for how what the potential winners will have to do to win!
AND, I have the coolest, coolest fun thing that happened to me this morning! It is on my blog today!
SO, YES, I am definitely "in"!
I'm definately interested in the Christmas giveaway, Mr. Linky thing. I have the perfect item!
By the way, I love Jon and Kate plus 8. I always feel inspired to do fun things with my kids after I watch that show!
My two year old calls the show "John and Kaden" She knows it better than Sesame Street. Oh so cute! I love the show!!! If I wasn't in TN or having a baby tomorrow I would soooo be at Girl's Night out! Have fun... wait... how can you not???
Oh how I wish I lived closer!! I love you guys and I love Kate!!
Have a wonderful time!
I love Jon and Kate Plus 8! And I love Kate's realness too! Oh how I'd love to meet her.
Have fun!
What an exciting announcement, and definitely count me in on the giveaway!
Houston sounds like great fun! Really do not know how the Gosslin family does it. I would go absolutely crazy! Count me in for the Christmas give away, plus that would give me the jump start to cut this writer's block thingy I have been dealing with.
oh man!! I would LOVE to meet Kate. I just love her. She's so much like me. I love all the little notes and lists around her house. It warms my heart. Unfortunately the driving distance between me and Houston is like 12 weeks or something.
I would definitely be interested in Mr. Linky. I just participated in one of those today. It was a little stressful trying to keep up with hundreds of posts. I gave up at about 2 pm. But it was fun having all the bloggy love flowing for a while.
Blessings,
Sandy
p.s. Just to clarify...you are NOT pregnant. Right??????
I would like to do the Mr. Linky thing!
I can not wait for the GNO in Jan!!! My Best friend and I will be there, on the 3rd row!! Yes, I said 2rd row!!! Can you hear me squealing???? Jan can not get here quick enough! Hoping to meet you and Kate! I tivo her and read you faithfully!
Blessings!
I'm so sad I do not live closer to Texas. The JK8 Crew makes me a nervous wreck so I would be ever so thrilled to hear how she keeps it together like she does. I would be getting saved in every episode.
I would participate, and I want you to know that I used the semicolon in a couple of sentences this week. I am just not 100% sure I used it correctly, but I have a feeling the people I wrote to won't know either :)
I'd love to be a part so count me in.
Not sure what I could give away but still count me in.
Vickie
Oh my goodness! How I wish I lived in Houston!!! I heart you and Renee and Kate. That is so exciting! I will pray that the Lord uses all three of you and all the people behind the scenes to win souls to Christ. (P.S. Can you get Kate to guest post on your blog someday? That would be awesome!)
What a great announcement! My teenagers are watching her family on TV all the time. Wish we all could come to Houston!!
I'll have to think about this Christmas giveaway.....I love giving!!
Blessings!
In His Graces~Pamela
Oh my goodness! That is AWESOME!!!
I so wish I lived near there.
Indiana and Texas.....way far apart.
I love Kate...and the 8! What a great family.
Sounds like a total God-thing!
Yay!
I just want to know when you might get a bit further north AND west...Wisconsin is still pretty far away from me, and Texas is even further!
I will pray blessings on your Girls' Night Out all the same!
Wow I wish I could even consider Girls' Night out in Houston, as I'm only an hour away... but alas, my 3rd baby is scheduled to make her appearance just a few days later. and the risk of going into labor over all the estrogen in the room would just be too great (as fun as it might be for ya'll to be in on the action)!
But I just might be at She Speaks with my newborn at the end of July...sooner or later, I do intend to pull up a chair at one of ya'll's events!
(and to think, before I moved to Texas a year ago, I would have been horrified to use 2 apostrophes in one word. now it just seems so...right!)
I AM SO EXCITED for tonight! I took a leap of faith and purchased 15 tickets to tonight's GNO and invited everyone that I can think of and ended up having to purchase another set of 15 tickets! I rounded them up from work, my business, neighbors, and friends and encouraged them to bring a friend! Isn't that what you're supposed to do when you're excited about something! ALL 30 of us are SO EXCITED!
I've read devotionals on Proverbs 31 website since 2003 and will continue sharing them with my friends!
I'm not sure what Mr. Linky is, but I'M IN on giving away some Southern Living at HOME Products! I'll keep an eye out for more details!
If you're interested in me donating something for tonight's GNO...feel free to contact me.
Thanks, Lysa! Stay Blessed!
LOL I was wondering why it was such news that Kate was going to be at the GNO tonight? LOL I'm just now reading this blog entry from December! Sorry! Either way...feel free to contact me if you get this in time for me to bring a free item for the Girls Night Out tonight. Stay Blessed!
