Yesterday Brooke and I had quite the adventure. After telling Brooke all weekend we felt pretty certain her arm- which hurt when she was bored and felt fine when she wanted to swim with her friend- was perfectly fine... the doctor informed us it was broken.
Lovely.
Never has a child displayed richer joy than being able to call her Daddy and her doubting siblings on my cell phone and say, "See!" Of course this moment was only second to picking the hot pink casting.
After that it was time to go to her Daddy's Chick-fil-A armed with a sharpie and let the signing begin!
On our way home we were stopped at a light when I saw her.
A woman with a cardboard sign.
A sign that read: "Help me please. God bless."
And suddenly my heart split in two and started battling what should be done in that minute. One part of me warned, "If you give her money, she'll buy alcohol and drugs. Don't enable this woman. Besides, it's probably a scam. In a few hours she'll go get in her Mercedes having pocketed hundreds of dollars and drive home smiling."
But there was another part of me saying, "Lysa, your job is obedience. Just give and trust God with the rest. Even if she is doing something wrong with the money, don't you think God can still use your act of pure love for good?"
The cars started moving.
I would have to make a decision.
Quickly, I handed a few dollars out the window and smiled.
Only then did I know this was absolutely the right decision. I knew it the instant I looked into her eyes.
But, what about tomorrow? What about the next cardboard sign holder? "The Lord is good to all; He has compassion on all he has made," (Psalm 145:9).
Your thoughts???
