Today, I'm contributing this article for Rachel's blog carnival on joy. I ran it on my blog a while ago on a Monday morning. But I think it still applies for a Thursday afternoon as well...
John 3:30 says, "He must become greater, I must become less."
Eight simple words that carry with them such richness.
Eight simple words I would do well to challenge myself with today.
Eight simple words reminding me it's not all about me or my comfort or my plans.
Eight simple words lifting high the name of Jesus who demonstrated true influence is born from humility and service.
Eight simple words I want to proclaim and live by.
Eight simple words reminding me just how great Jesus is.
I'll be honest, I need these eight simple words today. Mondays can be hard. Shifting back into everyday mode from weekend mode is challenging.
Piles of laundry are calling my name today. There's a grocery trip to make. Menus to think about. A book report one needs help with and a leaking sink that must be looked at. And on top of everything else, someone spilled grits in my car. Grits. Why did it have to be grits?
And my heart kinks up a bit and I just want to pout for a minute. Or maybe seven minutes. Or ten. Then these eight simple words rush through my heart and I realize how good and healthy and necessary all these everyday things are. Not just for my family. They are good for me.
It is good for me to serve.
It is good for me to see and touch and wash and clean and realize life is messy. But life is good.
It is good to care for my blessings and remember to see them as blessings.
It is good for me to see how tempted I am to grumble about things and how much I need Jesus.
It is good to feel His strength take over my weakness.
It is good to pray that He become more and I become less.
Eight simple words have brought a smile to my face.
Eight simple words have restored joy to my heart.
Eight simple words have made me excited and eager and full of anticipation about the joy I can bring to this Monday morning. To my family. To my world.
Eight simple words.
