I was standing in the middle of New York and Company's clearance sale fretting because of an e-mail I got yesterday. I have been advised by the "Girl's Night Out" production team to not wear Black, white, patterns or any harsh color combinations.
That pretty much describes my entire wardrobe. Houston, we have a problem. Literally.
So, there I stood. I was not feeling the fashion love. Nothing was right. And then the phone call came.
It was Art.
It seems Cupcake, the beloved hamster, who was lost and found and lost and most recently found- had an unfortunate encounter with one of our dogs while the girls and I were out.
I know some theologians say animals can't go to heaven but maybe those theologians are wrong. There are no words to comfort a child's absolutely broken heart in this situation apart from heaven.
Art and I assured her Cupcake loves heaven.
She doesn't have to be in a cage. She always hated her cage. She can roam free and no one will get mad if she poops on the kitchen counter. Glory. Can you imagine a better life for a hamster?
Now, I have to admit, though I didn't want Cupcake part of my heart is heavy for the loss of this little creature. I think it is even more heavy over seeing my child grieving.
Buckets of tears were shed until we mentioned (gasp!) getting another hamster. One we will secure in such a way that the dogs can't get to it ever. Suddenly, she lit up. The world titled back in place. And plans were made for Brooke and her brother to have a special date at the pet store.
Then we woke up this morning to an absolute winter wonderland and canceled school. Which is a great distraction for a child grieving the loss of her beloved pet.
Not so great for a woman with nothing to wear. This Thursday. On a stage. I may be strapping on my husband's hunting boots and hoofing it over to the Target down the road.
Oh yes, one more thing- the winner of the free tickets for Thursday- you know the event where I have nothing to wear- is Christy Richardson. Congrats girl! You and a friend are coming on Thursday. I'll e-mail you today and tell you how to get your tickets.
Happy Tuesday.
