Have I got a gift for you!
Amazing Give Away Opportunity Just Ahead...

Hello stress. My name is Lysa. And apparently I am clueless.

It all started when I headed to my favorite, swanky, get a really nice gift for my kid’s teachers this year, store. Otherwise known as the dollar rack at Target.

Oh, yes ma’am. There is some mighty fine merchandise to be found there. And, I love when cute things only cost $1.

Now, just so you don’t think I’m a total cheapskate, I arranged all my treasures in lime green pales and tucked two Chick-fil-A gift cards in each. (Hello free to me.)

So, I collected all this cute stuff and started filling up the pales. I just needed one more red item. It needed to be small. It needed to be in the food category. It needed to be in the $1 category.

Back to the Target Dollar rack I headed. And what to my wondering eyes should appear? But little red packages of coffee that smelled so dear.

Perfect.

Or so I thought.

When Art got home and I proudly shared my little lime green pales with the Southern Comfort Coffee inside, he looked at me funny.

He titled his head. And he informed me that the coffee brand label “Southern Comfort” was not a cute off brand name of coffee. This company apparently makes spirits of sorts that do not fall in the holy category.

Have mercy.

Dear Teachers- please be informed that the coffee included in your gift may look a little suspicious.

It does not contain alcohol. Nor do I condone adding said alcohol to your morning coffee as suggested on the package instructions.

Although this gift may clearly give you the impression that is exactly what I did before heading off to the dollar rack at Target to purchase this gift, I did not.

The end.

Evidence:

Just in case your teacher gifts have been a little stressful for you as well, I have just the solution!

Julie Ray from a delightful company called "Thirty-One Gifts" has generously offered to give one lucky winner a $75 gift certificate to spend on your choice to lovely products from their new catalog.

Go here and click on "View Our Catalog" at the top of the page and then click on "View Catalog" in the black box on the right hand side of the screen.

Find something you'd buy with this certificate, come back to share your treasure with us in the comments below, and cross your fingers- toes- and whatever else.

Just stay away from little red packages of coffee from the $1 rack at Target---K?

I'll announce the winner on Thursday along with the winner of the $20 Starbucks card from the survey give away.

Merry Christmas y'all!

Ummm, I love love love Thirty One stuff!!!! I would totally love one of those woven purses with my initials on it and a wallet to match or I would like a full size apron with my initials on it......actually, there is nothing in their catalog I would not love to have. Not that I'm greedy or anything.....

Blogger Laurie said...

Oh how I would love the medium tote and matching soft wallet in brown damask. I love that fabric.

I am a lover of the $1 rack at Target also. Your teacher's gifts look so cute. Who would think to add "spirits" to coffee...maybe teachers trying to cope with kids ready for Christmas break. Your gift might be the envy of all.

Anonymous Patti VZ said...

I agree with Laurie... your gift might be the envy of all the school staff! :)

I would LOVE a tote or backpack. My poor backpack for my Bible and church stuff is getting very frayed and ratty looking. Time to upgrade!

Anonymous Stephenie said...

Lysa,
Must I choose? I LOVE it all. The tote bags are so cool. I think all the note cards and labels are super cute too. Have a great day!

What's not to love at that store!?! I love the handbags, aprons, baskets. All of it too cute!

I can't wait to see you in January. I am giving my best friend a trip to Houston with me for Christmas. Can anyone say Road trip?? I am so excited and can't wait to tell her!

Anonymous Wendy said...

I would love the letter hangers or any one of the many totes---I would probably pick one that would suit my amazing 16 year iold daughter and give it to her for her upcoming birthday.

I look forward to reading your blog daily Lysa---even though I do not always post in the comments. You are usually my "first stop" in the blog reading world.

So...when are you coming to California????

Blessings for a Wonderful Day!

From Thirty-One,
I would get the big Initial letters, the skirt purse (how cute!), and the soy candles.

Great idea for the teacher's gifts! Limey green pails...cute-cute.

I would really like one of the wallets; I'm 27 with two kids and still carrying the wallet my sister give me a long time ago with a little blue and green turtle on it. The matching purse would be nice too,

Teacher gift.....ooops, how did that slip my mind....thanks for the reminder and cute idea!

As to Thirty-One, very cute stuff. The totes are lovely and perhaps a small soft wallet.

Have a great day!

I love the Brown Woven Cindy Tote & large Travel Duffel Bag to match - give me a pair and I'm on my way! Finding myself needing something smaller than a suitcase for quick trips to visit my dad, whose health is declining.

Blogger Susan said...

Wow! I love the organizing tote bag and the travel cosmetics bag among many, many other things too! I have not heard of this company before and I'm definitely a'house party junky' as I'm sure many of your readers are. Free or discounted gifts? I'm there... I also heart Target (otherwise know as Tarjayyyy for the more sophisticated shoppers!) When it opened here just a few years ago, my family thought I had gone whacko I was so excited! I grew up with Target in the Midwest, but it's a relatively new phenomenon in my area of the East coast.

For teachers, I often do a bucket with microwave popcorn, chocolate, candy and a gift card to the local movie store for those cold winter nights..

Blogger Angie said...

Oh, the $1 rack at Target is full of delights, some are just more hidden than others. :)

I love Thirty-One! It's so hard to choose, but I'd go with the baskets and the organizers, because I'm slowly trying to get my home ordered a bit more.

Blogger Kimberly said...

hee hee
You had me laughing out loud this morning! I still giggle a little whenever I think about it! For real? Does it say on the package to add some alcohol to your morning coffee? tee hee...Now those teachers will know the truth...here they were thinking you were filled with the Holy Spirit. Truth's out now! :)

And thanks for this giveaway! I love the the brown damask totes with the cute little bows! I would have to get one for me and one for my mom. She is the queen of purses! :)

Have a blast in Texas...ummmm...just the Holy Spirit, though, K?
:)

Blogger KimAmburn said...

I'm a big Target fan and now I'm a big Thirty-One fan! They have so many gorgeous things. With the certificate, I'd pick the skirt purse and get a matching one for my 4 yr old daughter who loves purses (esp when she gets to be like Mom). That's a little more than the certificate, but so worth it I don't mind spending my own money too!

Blogger Happy Four said...

The teachers gifts are so cute...I wouldn't have had a clue about the coffee brand either.

Thirty One has some beautiful items. My heart would skip a beat if given a monagrammed medium tote...all the colors are great!

I love your teacher gifts. You are more creative than you give yourself credit for!

I can't wait until January. I purchased my tickets to the Girls Night Out yesterday. I hope I get the chance to meet you.

Thirty One has some great gifts. Do I have to pick just one? Thanks for the opportunity to win.

Anonymous Bridget said...

Your blog cracks me up! Those little pails turned out cute and I'm sure the teachers will love them. I had never heard of Thirty One; thank you for sharing! I'm desperately trying to see who else I can shop for...so many cute things. I would probably get a shoulder bag and some of the wrought iron word art.

My name is Jen and I will join you in the clueless department. I bought these gorgeous "glass" bottles that I thought would adorn my kitchen sink just beautifully. They were etched with intricate designs...yep - loved them for $1 at the thrift store.

Well, after I gazed at them a few days, I had a sinking feeling when I turned them around and saw some words written on the side. Now, I have never been a drinker but even the most naive, clueless gals have seen movies where the richy types pour glasses of hard alcohol from those gorgeous cantors. So I googled the name...yep, I'll join you in the clueless department. Come on - they sure are pretty when they are empty. :)

Blogger Michelle said...

First of all I just want to say how much I have enjoyed reading your blog the last couple of days (I'm a new here). You crack me up! And like you, I love the $1 aisle at Target!

Now as far as the Thirty One catalog, it's hard to choose. I love the skirt purses, and the kids bags. The organizers look like something I could use in my kids' rooms, but then again I'm a sucker for yummy smelling candles.

Blogger The Long Family said...

I would have to get the Believe letter and the pull apart cosmetic bag!!! Such cute stuff!! And I am sure the teachers will like the coffee. Prbably didn't even notice the name or alcohol thing!

I almost bought some SC coffee once! I bet it's tasty, anyway.

As much as I'd love a new wallet, and a tote for my Bible, I'd get a brown damask or black bubble backpack--my daughter needs one some kinda bad, and we don't have the funds right now. She's complaining about carrying her stuff the old-fashioned way--w/ her arms! Ha--if she only knew how I had to do school...two miles uphill in the snow...(just kidding--I rode a bus about 1 mile!) I really like the Thirty-One products.

Good morning, Lysa
Thanks for directing us to this website. I loved reading about this company that seeks to honor God. I would most definitely get two Julie totes. I teach two homeschool co-op classes and each tote could carry the materials I need. When I'm not in class, everything will be nicely organized on my closet shelf. Thanks for the opportunity.

Love your teacher gifts! As for the contest...Chocolate Chic purses and totes...I am so in need of a nice purse...carrying an old "relic" purse from Kohls right now(really made by Relic) anyways it's sad looking. Thanks for the prompt!

Cute, cute things!!!! I've never seen this line before. I'm actually a first-time viewer of your blog...so maybe you've mentioned them before?

I would love the boys camo backpack, the camo design folded notecards and the camo ID tags for my little guy!

REALLY cute catalog!

I would get a camo tote that says "Boys Rock"

Just kidding - that's what my men would like me to get.

I love the organizing tote and the magazine basket.

Thanks for the contest!

I know being in Canada this prize probably doesn't extend to me, but I checked out the catalog anyway. I'm a word girl, so the wrought iron word art is my first pick! There was also a cute polka dot brown purse and what looked like a daisy tote bag that caught my eye.

Speaking of your great deals at Target, the Christian Bookstore here that went bankrupt in the Fall hasn't completely closed yet. I drove over this afternoon and ALL books were $2.95!!! Let's just say I came home with more than a few good buys!

Enjoying a good deal,

Thought of you when I read it and how your blog brings so many of us together each day! God Bless!

TO: God.com

Dear Lord,

Every single evening

As I'm lying here in bed,

This tiny little Prayer

Keeps running through my head:

God bless all my family

Wherever they may be,

Keep them warm and safe from harm

For they're so close to me.

And God, there is one more thing

I wish that you could do;

Hope you don't mind me asking,

Please bless my computer, too.

Now I know that it's unusual

To Bless a motherboard,

But listen just a second

While I explain it to you, Lord.

You see, that little metal box

Holds more than odds and ends;

Inside those small compartments

Rest so many of my friends.

I know so much about them

By the kindness that they give,

And this little scrap of metal

Takes me in to where they live.

By faith is how I know them

Much the same as you.

We share in what life brings us

And from that our friendships grew.

Please take an extra minute

From your duties up above,

To bless those in my address book

That's filled with so much love

Wherever else this prayer may reach

To each and every friend,

Bless each e-mail inbox

And each person who hits 'send'

When you update your Heavenly list

On your own Great CD-ROM,

Bless everyone who says this prayer

Sent up to GOD.com

Amen

I snuck back to the travel size stuff and made her a teacher survival kit for her desk that included chocolates, a new fancy notepad and pens, Aleve, lip balm, hair elastics, gum, hand balm and a really nice card. Including the cute little fabric bucket I completed my gift for slightly under $20.

We also asked about classroom supplies and found out the markers were drying out so we gifted the whole class with new markers for when they return in January. I don't know about where you are but our teachers restock supplies out of their pocket more often than not so to be given class supplies actually saves them money from there own personal account.

Just wanted to say thanks for the idea and let you know it was a big hit!
