Quirk confession time.
I have about a 50% success rate when I pull my hubby's car into our very narrow garage. It's true - I only clear the sides about half the time. (Please take note that I said very narrow)
Take a look at the evidence.

No matter how carefully I navigate, I still struggle. It's difficult, trust me.
Lately I settle for this nifty tactic - as I'm sloooowly pulling in, if my house slightly shakes, I know I need to back up and try again.
Is my hubby happy to see the damage increase every few months? Let's just say we don't talk about it anymore.
He sighs (heavily), I shrug my shoulders, end of discussion.
Quirk confession time:
What quirk do you have or do that drives your friends and family up a wall? (or into a wall if you're anything like me.) Please share with us!
Blessings,
~Holly (Lysa's Assistant)

I do things in sets of fours. Is that a quirk, or more of an O-C thing? :)
For example, I'll say a phrase 4 times in a row, or gesture 4 times. Drives my roommates nuts...
Hi Holly,
It's Carol from NJ. I just had to comment when I saw this post because those pictures could have been of our car in our garage! I'm so glad I'm not the only one with that problem.
Take care!
Lol! We had a garage that was almost too short to park the car in. We actually had to remove the front license plate and park with the nose of the car touching the wall in order to get the garage door down without scraping the bumper.
As far as my own quirks...I'm sure each member of my family could name a favorite or two, but I think I'm perfectly quirkless!
Hi Holly,
I am not sure if this is quirk or not, but I know people sometimes get upset when I do this... I will talking with someone and every once in a while I will be talking and am looking around the room. Not b/c I am bored just b/c I get sidetracked easily...
Btw. Your a doing a great job of writing while Lysa's away!!! Have a great day!!!
Regarding your car. I had the same problem, and got a new van with sonar in the bumper. Knock on wood, I haven't hit the garage since!!!!
Quirks? me? nah.
I sneakily turn the AC down a couple of degrees when I go to bed. My husband is starting to catch on! He is so frugal but I just like to be a little cooler as I fall asleep!
I change subjects in my mind and forget to tell my husband so when I make a comment or ask a question, he is totally confused because he wasn't able to track with what is going on in my mind. :/
Holly,
I over analyze everything! This comes in handy as a paralegal, but can drive my friends crazy! Not my husband, though, because he is very analytical, too!!!
Barb
I have a hard time sitting down to watch a movie. I'm always wanting to get up and pick up around the house or finish folding clothes. I just like to multi-task, but it drives my family nuts.
My husband would love to tell you about the streak I went through recently of locking myself out of the house...MANY times. And then I also locked my keys in my car during this fun time period, too. More than once. :)
Needless to say, he established a place in the house for my keys to ALWAYS hang, and keeps a check on me as to if I have them or not. It really probably is best if I don't have to bother my neighbors any more for say...using their phone to call for help or to ask them to please drive me to pick my daughter up from school! :)
Hey Holly! My quirk that gets my husband's goat every time is.....that I analyze every little thing!!!!!!! Yep, I can certainly be a pickle sometimes!
Love your post!
Rebecca
Well, I'll have to say I lean toward Sherry about changing subjects in my mind without telling dh. He is very logical and analytical, so this really does drive him nuts. Also, I sometimes have a problem remembering small little things, or places we've been. When he is reminiscing and I can't remember us being somewhere, it's not a pretty picture. I've explained that with three children, I store what I NEED to store, and the rest goes out the window!! It does tend to drive him crazy. Gotta love 'em!
Oh yeah, I forgot one more thing - I think this may be just a woman thing - let me know if you do this. I love to take different routes to get to places. For instance, when I used to work, I would find 2 or 3 different ways to get home, just for the change!!!
I'm not sure just how many of my friends know about this but some of them do. It doesn't bother them but it bothers me. ha When I have gone out somewhere in the car, before I will lock the door I HAVE to be looking at my keys! I'm so afraid of locking myself out! You may wonder why I don't just use the remote to lock the door and that way I'll KNOW I have my keys in my hands. Good question! Here's why: I used to always use the remote. Then one day a year or so ago I could not get the remote to unlock my car. In fact even when I used the key to unlock it , it would just lock back! Weird! My son noticed that the "lock" button on the remote was stuck in the down position so it was constantly telling the car to lock itself up! He fixed the remote but ever since then I have been afraid to use the remote so lock it manually before I shut the door when I get out. Thus...I am looking at my keys with one eye and locking the door with the other eye! I am a great mulit-tasker! ha ha
By the way....I'm not real good at driving through narrow spaces either!
Hope you're having a good week!

I have a few quirks. One is that I refuse to sit with my back to a door. Just can't do it. Also, I bare feet weird me out. Mine or anyone else's, LOL. The last thing, and I'm not so sure it's a quirk, is that I cannot fall asleep unless I have prayed. It has to be in bed. Can't be in the recliner and then go to bed. Nope, won't work.
Er, good luck with the car thing!
The one thing I do that drives my husband crazy is that I drop things as I come in the front door. He can tell exactly what path because I leave a trail intentionally dumping things as I go along. :)
I've done the car thing too! a couple times :( So I guess it irks my husband and daughter when I am a backseat driver...yesterday I was doing a quick shoulder bop to music on the radio while driving...that irked my little one.
Like Shara I can't settle and enjoy a movie without getting up.
And if I do sit close to someone on the couch I have the tendency to curl my toes repeatedly against them as I sit sit criss cross.
I have to stop here...this is only the tip of the iceberg! :0
Oh sweet Holly! Thank you so much for posting your pictures! The front of my Highlander looks the very same way! Oh and the side of the garage... how funny (not). I think that I christened our home within the first three months of living there. Nothing like a fresh dents to make a house a home! I like to do this so that every other oops that takes place will make the oopsee (?) feel like they are adding more character to our lovely home! Have a wonderful day everyone! Love Dawn T.
I only realize this quirk because of my husband's recent trip around the house replacing ALL FOUR cordless phones on their chargers....oops!

This is TOO FUNNY, Holly. I have the same garage issue. What misery! Ya back up, ya pull in. Ya back up again, ya pull in. Sigh.
Thankfully, my husband recently installed a laser-light guidance thingy (I know, I know, my techno-language is astounding). Now I can tell if I'm in the right spot by a teeny red light on my dashboard.
I'd prefer a bigger garage, but hey, I'll take what I can get!
Blessings!
I never tighten the lid of a jar. On a recent visit to my in-law's home, my husband suggested I watch when I screw a lid on-- his father always picks the jug of milk up by the top. Oops.
LOL That is too funny. I know its not really. But isnt it amazing how we just ARE in some cases? My quirk...I leave cabinet doors open. I dont know why? Drives my family stark raving crazy. Especially since my husband is 6'7 and generally FINDS them for me. :)
I agree, you are doing wonderful! Thanks for the posts!
Honestly...there are probably too many to list here.
And what is scary is when I see them show up in my boys?!?!
I am known to my family and friends as the "one who never answers the phone". Even if I am at home, if I am busy, I don't answer. It irritates everyone I know to death!
It's so bad that when I DO answer, I catch the caller off guard and they don't even know what to say to me...they are so used to talking to my answering machine!
In my defense, I DO always return calls when I get free time. After all, I AM a homeschool mom who stays VERY busy.
Well, Now you know!
Blessings,
Starr
Holly... leave your poor husband's car in the driveway! We all have our quirks, don't we? I cannot stand to see the dried up "sleepys" in the corners of my cat's eyes. How's that for weird?
Speaking of pulling into the garage. I pull the minivan in straight because the clearance for the side mirrors is so slight; if I pull in straight, I can back out straight, right?
Well, my husband has to pull it in crooked because, as he says, he can't get out of the car easily if it is pulled in straight (he is under 200 lbs, by the way, so he is not large!). Thus the dilemma the next time I use the van. I have to maneuver the vehicle left and right to back it out without hitting the mirrors on the sides. Arrgghh!
I think the quirk here is builders who skimp on garages!!!!

Oh, so many quirks, so little time.
Here are just a couple to enjoy:
I love a deep unending love for office supplies, most specifically-paper. I have a hard time going into office supply stores without thinking up some reason to buy more school/office supplies. Back to school season, endless to say, is my favorite time of year because of all the sales (hubs monitors my actions closely at back to school sales).
I have a problem with curbs, I typically pull too close and end up scraping the curb and hubs just looks at me. I have been known to wreak a tire or two like that.
Great job posting while Lysa is away! Keep up the good work!!
Mine is all about asking too many questions. It exasperates him sometimes. So then I just say, "Well how else am I going to learn if I don't ask?" :o)
Well, I'm not sure it's a QUIRK, but it drives my husband nuts. I've got some health problems, and I HAVE to get my rest. It becomes quite obvious when I haven't gotten ENOUGH - I start out by dropping things. Then breaking things. Then hurting my self with little accidents - a nick while slicing veggies, walking into the doorframe, dropping something on my foot.... Well, I bet you get the picture.... :D
One of the worst ones I have is straight pictures, It dosen't matter where I go if your pictures aren't straight then I will fix them. Every thing with me has to be asymetrictrial. I'm sorry I just can't help it. It drives me absolutley crazzzzzy. I have been to the home of my husbands boss and have had to leave the room to keep from fixing theirs pictures. I will do it in resturants, dr. offices, church it dosen't matter. I also count the yellow markers on the center line of the road when I am driving. I know I know, OCD right.
LOL

I am much like Rebecca (tigerdaisy) and some others who commented about over analyzing everything. I like to try to understand things/people/etc and it can be very destructive because I often come to false conclusions.
A quirk that many people may not like about me because they misunderstand it is that I ask a lot of questions. Sometimes it can be perceived as "grilling" or "interviewing" but with my analytical mind I also am extremely curious and like to know and understand things better. Hopefully, those who know me have caught on and know it is a compliment that I want to know about them whatever I'm asking.
Oh, by the way, it "kind of" bothers me, every time I see:
Holly (Lysa's Assistant). I know you are her assistant but from all that I've gathered and read about you via this blog you are SO MUCH MORE than her assistant.
Please take that as a compliment. I know you want people who may be new to the blog to know who Holly is but I just wanted to give you a shout out for ALL you are.
Blessings,
Paula
It is fun reading all these. It makes me forget the worries. I just laugh. Quirk-I'm very much like you Holly. I don't drive into narrow garages very well. Thus, I do not do it. I know I should practice, but hey, if he's happy, I'm happy. I also don't park straight on the driveway. Either my tires are not pointing straight or I park too close to grass or the other cars. It drives me my husband nuts. But, I think he still loves me. He just gives me the "you are impossible" look. What can I say?
Holly, I have to confess to the same difficulty you have experienced. My husbands car is larger than mine, and it IS hard to get his car in and out of the garage. I sympathize with you my friend. I no longer make that maneuver. I leave it in the driveway!
Another crazy quirk. The direction of the toilet paper roll! I always hang it so it rolls under, not over. This very "quirk" was the thing that actually won us First Place in a couples competition of the "Newleywed Game" that we played at a church retreat.
I have MANY 'quirks' and my husband could list them all for you I'm sure. So thankful he showers me with grace.
Have a great day my friend.
Love & prayers,
Joy
I don't know if this is a quirk or habbit or what but it drives my hubby crazy. I am always checking my blogs or my email, he says everytime I pass the computer I have to sit down and look at something!! :-)
When I walk up stairs, I count each one in my head!!!!
I have a VERY narrow garage, and an SUV, as well. I figure I have a MAXIMUM of 4 inches clearance TOTAL for both sides. We've lost a mirror or two...
And, I'm with becky that I don't close cabinet doors, nor can I sit still and watch a movie like many of us. The thing that my kids love/ hate -- EVERYTHING makes me think of a song. It could be a praise song, or the Eurythmics. Doesn't matter -- but virtually ANY phrase or situation will make me start singing lyrics that apply!
OK, how did you get in my garage to take those pics?
As for my quirks...I don't have any and I'm sure that drives my family crazy...LOL!
Quirky is good... it keeps life interesting!
My daughter and I had watched White Christmas; a few weeks later we were in the store and started singing "Choreography". Not only that, we actually started to kick as we sang, "Chicks - who've got kicks..." Spontaneous musicals happen frequently in our family!
Sometimes we'll be looking for a card and get the giggles reading the humorous birthday cards. Once it starts, it's too late... then you've got two women with their legs crossed in the card aisle!
My husband received a Basset Hound calendar and we "named" them all after someone we knew. Honestly, those dogs really did look like the people we named them after. Now it's a quirky New Year's tradition!
Well.....I didn't really think that I had any quirks until I read everyone elses!!!
I rarely do one think at a time. If I am on the computer...I have the TV on also. If I am watching TV... I am folding the wash. Making dinner...talking on the phone. Etc. Etc. Etc.
Oh well--at least I am getting things accomplished, right??
Oh, let me count the quirks!!!
When I fill the dishwasher up, I always put everything in a similar place. EX. The glasses go on one side, the plastic on another, the knives all in one cubby and the baby silverware all in one cubby... like there are invisible labels for where it is all suppose to go. If I try to just throw it all in, (to prove to myself I'm not quirky) I end up re-doing it cause it just doesn't seem right! :o)
shanda
Oh I am just laughing because I can relate! For me, it cutting corners to quickly - like running over the curb. Sometimes hard! This unfortunately caused the hubcab to crack, the crack then caused the tired to ooze out air which caused the need for new tires and uhhhh a new hubcap too.
I think I'm in too much of a hurry sometimes!!! :)
It's been great having you guest blog Holly!!
Holly,
Something that drives my husband crazy about me, is that after our dinner in the evening I take the bag of trash out of the trash can. And TIE the sack in a square knot.
In my own little mind I'm keeping all that TRASH contained on the way out to the dumpster and from the dumpster to the trash truck/landfill.
Blessings!
Yolanda
OK - I'm going to embarrass myself but... I am quirky about mayonnaise and room-temperature salad! Everyone in the office knows that I will not eat anything that has mayonnaise in it or on it if it has "traveled." I'm sorry, but there is just something wrong when a food item starts out white and then turns clear when you put it on something warm. It completely grosses me out! It doesn't matter if a burger comes from just down the road. If the mayonnaise has traveled from there to here, I won't touch it. ICKY! The same thing goes for salads. It has to be COLD - in the fridge right before I eat it. I can't stand to even look at a salad if it is room-temperature. This goes for all salads - not just potato salad because it has mayo. I like my green salad cold too! See... very quirky!
I think you should start a "Quirks Anonymous" club. From the looks of your comments, you've got a pretty good start already!
Love You,
LeAnn "hold the mayo" Rice
I Never step on sidewalk cracks! At least I try very hard not to!
I take my shoes off where ever I happen to stop. So, at times we might have half a dozen pair of my shoes about.
My husband used to fight it, now he just steps over them or kicks them out of the way.
The funny thing was I never even realized I did this until he pointed it out continuously during our first year.
I say "LIKE" alot.....I notice it but I don't know if other people do (if they do, they have never said it was annoying. I talk alot so I can't imagine them NOT noticing!).
Hmm. I'm not sure. I don't live with anyone so there is no one to bother on a regular basis. But I do apologize a bit too much. I've never had a speeding ticket. I've been told that my comfort level with silence is a bit disconcerting. My counselor confirms that I am more comfortable with silence than just about anyone she knows. Of course, that goes against the whole idea of "talk" therapy!
Keep up the great job Holly!
Sheesh...I didn't think I had any until recently. I am WELL aware now of my quirks or whatever you call them. I keep most things under wraps though and so I'm not sure if those closest to me could think of many quirks. Here's what I now know about myself, however...
I hate minty smells. Therefore, if you have just brushed your teeth, don't come near me. (I have a wickedly strong sense of smell.)
I cringe just before I take a drink at the water fountain as I entertain the thought of someone coming behind me, shoving my head into it. Same thing with doors. As I go out a door, like at a restaurant bathroom, I fear someone coming from the other side and knocking me out.
Ok, those are just two. Oh, but I have more. Need I go on? :)
I just hate it when those cement bases on light posts jump out and take a bite out of my car...!!
For a minute, I was certain these were my pics. Wrong vehicle. We park 2 Mountaineers in my garage. (Oh, we'd love to get rid of one of the gas guzzlers...mine (not paid for) but can't get squat for it.)
I had my bumper replaced not long ago because a pole at Walgreens bumped into me. I KNOW! I can't believe it either! ;)
I've scuffed the front bumper on the trim-thingy of the garage that you show in your pics.
My 18 year old has a Ford Focus she parks at the end of the driveway- sometimes not far enough up. So getting out can be veryy challenging. Now the 15 year old has a permit. I should take a pic of the sheetrock in my garage that is smashed in because she got "a little too close". Understatement. I imagine I drive my family crazy with some of my driving.
They drive me crazy because they don't put their dishes in the dishwasher.
I loved seeing those photos!! God bless my husband who wasn't even the slightest bit mad when I ran the side of our car into the side of a pole in a parking garage. I was in such a rush that day, scratched up the car, and still missed the interview that I was trying to make on time. Just goes to show you- God's will or timing isn't always our own!! Thanks for making me smile!!
