Organization Swap and Hop
First I have to once again say that I have been completely blown away by the steady flow of e-mails in support of the Liberian orphans yesterday. I updated the post yesterday with photos... so please check it out.

Now for today's Swap and Hop!

I am so excited to have the opportunity for
Karen Ehman, author of "The Complete Guide to Getting and Staying Organized" to be joining us. So, here's how to participate. Do you have an area in your home that seems to be a constant organizational challenge?

If so, write about it on your blog today. ***BE sure to link back to this specific post from my blog so you will qualify for the giveaway. If you don't have a link back to this post, you will not be qualified to win- thanks!***

You can post pictures if you want to but that's not absolutely necessary. If you don't have pictures just describe your organizing challenge. Then link your organization post using the Mr. Linky box below.

Finally, hop around to the other blogs that are participating. Feel free to post your own organization solutions to others quandaries.

Karen will pick a few of the entries to feature instructional makeovers on her blog. Plus, we are both giving away a copy of her book to some of you lucky participants. So, be sure to leave a comment after your Mr. Linky on both my site and Karen's site.

Here's one of my organizational issues:

My Recipes!!!

I love the swap and hop theme. Everyone has such great ideas, I hope to get a few good ones to help me with my storage room.

I am so glad you did another swap & hop and I am thrilled that the subject is my top stressor right now... organization or lack thereof, I should say. Thanks for hosting this!

I am in desperate need to organize the millions of papers that get piled up on my kitchen cabinet.

Thanks for hosting this! I can use some help!

I posted about my struggle with paper clutter. Thanks for hosting this...I'm looking forward to seeing lots of great ideas!

This turned out to be a great way to start my day! Blogging and not worrying about whether my little one, who is now taller than me, is really giving effort into getting out the door to catch the bus. As for my efforts to reduce clutter...it's moving very slowly...but I really believe God is using it to my benefit! Thanks...got to get me moving now or I'll be late :)!

Hey, Lysa! You're so fun with your swap and hops! And a button, even. Aren't you techy??

I had your exact same recipe problem and did Karen's exact same recipe solution, and it really, really works! I love mine and it is easy to add to. Do it! I have plenty o'problems in this area; maybe you've given me blog fodder today!

You know Lysa, after the events of this week and after reading todays P31 devotional...I am going to concentrate on the clutter on my heart. The house can wait....

One of my many problem areas is under the kitchen sink and bathroom sinks. Things just pile up and fall over.
I have cleaning stuff and extra hairspray, soap etc.
The hall closet is another area that is a mess. Games are piled high, coats are shoved in and shoes are thrown in. I have tried a hanging shoe holder for gloves, mittens and scarves but it just seems to clutter it more.
Is there a better way to utilize the space above in a closet. I have basic wire shelf and lots of empty space. darla

Good Morning
Lysa, I am so glad you are doing this. I was just telling my husband the other day that I wanted one of those shows from HGTV to come and give my office a makeover. I didn't post pictures on my blog, cause I don't know how to do it.
Have a great day..
Blessings~Alyce

Maybe this time I'll find something I can implement and then maintain (the tricky part):)
I have the recipe mess, the paper clutter and the basement where we stashed everything we didn't unpack when we moved.

PS: I'm really glad I found the Proverbs 31 site

My biggest organizational problem is with my sewing supplies...mainly my fabric closet. I put aside my pride and posted pictures of the horrible closet on my blog today. I'm excited to read all of the other blogs that are posted today as well!

I'm seeing others with desk hot spots like me... it's nice to know I'm not alone. :) And I look forward to reading the other posts today, too. Thanks for doing this, Lysa!

Thanks, Lysa.

I really look forward to your Swap and Hops. Thanks for doing another one. : )

I have two little girls who love to leave behind a trail (I mean piles) of toys. I keep hoping to find a magic cure.

Have a great weekend,
Becky

So my blogger thinky and computer illiterate me aren't getting along today and the link can't be put on my page. But I did put your website on.
I'm excited! I hope I get some people to offor suggestions.

Have a Blessed Day!

I must admit that seeing everyone's photos only made me feel even more awful! If you call that clutter and mess, you should come visit me so you can feel good about yourself! :) Since I am technically challenged and am unable to post according to the rules of the contest, I will just leave my thoughts here. Between the mess the other three people create in my house, I can never tackle the mess I create. Amazingly enough, even though I attempt to uncover areas of my house daily, those areas seem to mysteriously disappear within an hour or two. I am going to have to assume that my house is "modest" and feels the need to "cover up" with my kids' toys, my husband's clothing and my paper trail so it appears less "naked."
Well, I guess I'll say some prayers and get back to the task of "stripping" my house! :)
Good luck to all the contestants!
PS Lysa, I donated $50 via check to the Fellowship.
Thank you for posting the address.

My problem area is in my dining room. I have a sewing area, computer desk and dining area and I would really love to be able to find a way it would all flow together and I am no good at orgainizing it is all just one giant heap. It would be nice to be able to find stuff but, you can read more about it in my blog

Thanks for this challenge I just know I am going to find it very helpful...

I really enjoy the swap and hops. Thanks to you and Karen for doing this one.

My big challenge is a deep pantry cupboard in my kitchen. I love having the space, but the pantry is so deep that things in the back get lost and sometimes forgotten.

I'm looking foward to seeing Karen's makeovers!

I work out of my home for an outside company. My office always seems to be a mess, inparticular, my desk. Partially because my 6 year old thinks it is her office and partially because my adoring husband drops "important papers" in the midst of my work papers and partially because i just haven't found a system to have a place to put everything!

Blogger Dena said...

This is my first swap and hop and I read through things and did my best to explain my worst:)! Hoping that the makeovers will give us all little tidbits of gold!

So....where do people like me start? It seems since both of my kids are in school now I can't keep anything organized!! I need lots of help but I'll start with my biggest 2. One of them is our bar- it catches everything from mail, cameras, keys- you name it. There is no room to eat there. The second place is my sons rooms. How in the world do you organize a child's room and find a home for everything? I am at my wits end- really. Please help!!! Hint, Hint- maybe a book or something would help. :)

Well, I didn't prepare anything because I was supposed to be in the hospital having this baby today...anyone have a creative solution for a labor/delivery ward that is filled beyond capacity with actively laboring women??? LOL

I will read and store up ideas. At 41.5+ weeks, this baby has to come someday, right????

I am so glad you did this. It has totally motivated me to get some clutter areas under control.

I was given a black wire type deal that holds 3 baskets. I think it came from Kirklands. It won't fit in bathrooms or it would be perfect for towels etc. Any ideas on what to do with it? It is holding Christmas cards right now and looks messy. Small things fall through and you can see what is in each basket which just looks messy.
Also I have a closet under steps that I would like to make a storage for scrapbooking. Any ideas on inexpensive storage? The space is about 42x39 and the lowest height is 52 inches. Darla

What a wonderful idea!! I have just found this wonderful blog and know that Jesus has pointed me in the right direction!!
My poor son has so many legos. His closet is so full, you can't move in it. I have tried putting them in plastic boxes by color, but have so many boxes you can't move!!
Thanks for this awesome idea!

Lysa, I have a gizzillion recipes, & I keep them in photo albums - the kind where you slide the picture in to the "pocket." It makes it so easy to flip through the book & find the ones I am looking for. :-)Now, help me mate the socks!!!

Thank you Lysa! I shared a story about ants that we discovered in our pantry after a trip last year. This battle with the ants led to my organization idea for my pantry.

Oh Lysa, that carline drama has me laughing hysterically. That is a riot. I just talked with one of 'the cherubs' teachers at carline today. I guess when the teacher walks him out to the car holding his hand (for the first time all year) you know something is up. ;) Praise God it's Friday!

Thank you so much for this topic, the area in my post has been a sore subject in our house for years. I'm hopeless lost in what to do with it.

I did the same thing with my recipes, I put them in a pretty photo album. When I was married, one of my gifts to my bridesmaids was a photo album with all the subject tabs, and several of my favorite recipes that I printed nicely on the computer. I enjoy seeing it in their kitchens still :)

My hubby once commented on my housekeeping / cleaning, exclaiming:
“my mother is the Cadillac, and honey, you’re the Volkswagon” !!

At the time it probably brought tears to my eyes – now, I smile...

Although I still can't seem to "live up to" the standard of house-cleaning that my MIL has "set"... I've come to realize what my strengths are, (and aren't!)... and the many other things I'm involved in...
I would love to surprise my hubby with an organized basement and attic, and my kids would love to re-gain their ping-pong table! So I'm very thankful for articles that inspire me to conquer my clutter, and especially blessed for the sisterly advice! Thank you!

I am organizationally challenged. Please Help!!

I have no clue what I am doing with this whole linking thing. I just know that I have, shall we say "areas" around my home that are slowly staging covert operations to take over my life. I managed to beat back the revolt that was going on with my scrapbooking, and I have negotiated a cease-fire with my paperwork, but man...those Christmas decorations are taking a lot of ground. HELP!

Blogger April said...

Lysa, I was reading the recent All You magazine (found at Walmart) and there is an article in there about recipe organization that you might find helpful.

I've been through every room in my house & re-organized it this year. It was a God thing. I've been blogging this journey, which has been tough but freeing.

Right now I'm in the attic.

I would like to encourage your readers...if I can do this, ANYONE can!

Alright, I have been 'purging' for a year!!!! That's a lot of stuff!!! Am it looks like I haven't done a thing!! Really, I truly believe everytime I throw away 1 thing, 2 items are brought into my home. I am in this circle of 'stuff' that I cannot stop spinning!

HELP, me to stop this 'cycle'!!! (pun intended). Hope you are laughing!!!! I am.
