I'm not sure if there is a recessive teenager gene that can linger and reside inside adult women or not.

But if there is, I just might have it.
I still blush when I have to buy feminine products and there is a boy cashier. Yes ma'am I do. As a matter of fact, I will stand in a much longer line with a girl cashier if said products are in my cart. And you better believe I tuck said products underneath my frozen pizzas in the cart just in case I run into someone I know.
If that movie scene ever played out in my life where the cashier announces over the store loud speaker that she needed "a price check on Kotex" aisle 7... well I would melt into a puddle of blush colored sweat.
It is a shame to be almost 39 years old and still struggle with such craziness.
But back to that recessive teenage gene. Yes, there is other proof I just might have this y'all. And for all three of you who also struggle with acne and wrinkles at the same time, you just might want to stand up and hug my blushing self today.
I have found my answer. After trying lots of products from the TV, pricey department stores, and even grocery stores alas my cure has been found.

I was meandering down the aisles of Walmart and what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a product by the name of Acne Severe. I have tried it and LOVE it!!!
I won't make you any promises and I am certainly not paid for this advertising. But if you have acne and wrinkles and you blush when you buy feminine products... you might have the same gene as me. And I'm thinking this might help cure us. At least two out of three of our problems.
What about you? Have you discovered any kind of favorite product lately? It can be anything that has made your life easier and your smile appear more often. Do tell friends... do tell.

Hi! I laughed at this post; I'm the same way! What I found is the Pantene Restoratitves Frizz Control Shampoo and Conditioner. They also have additional hair stuff with that same line and let me tell you - it works. My hair is long and is always frizzy so I love this stuff! I am looking for facial products that will help the red blotchy mess on my face. It's not rosacea or anything but not a good clear complexion. Can anyone help?? :-)
We have had some acne issues in our house lately but we have been trying the all natural approach. Like garlic, tea tree oil etc. Meghan's face is 100% better. But if it keeps happening I may have to try this. I did list all the things we are using on my blog the other day. We have had a blast making and doing it together, which is a great side part!

Enjoyed your honest and cute post, Lysa. I admit that I too look for a female cashier when buying feminine products and I'm also in my late thirties. I suppose it's something we'll never outgrow! As for favorite products, in the beauty category I have recently discovered Loreal's Voluminous mascara. Partnered with an eyelash curler, it makes my lashes look long and thick without clumping or smudging. And when it comes to smoothing wrinkles and protecting and preserving my skin, I use Meaningful Beauty skincare by Cindy Crawford. I've used it for over a year now and can really tell a difference in my skin. I bought it off an infomercial which I rarely do but it's proved to be a wise investment.
I have acne and wrinkles, too. And here I thought I was the only one!
As for products... mine is really more of a "thing." I own a rolling cart. Similar to this one:
http://www.uline.com/Browse_Listing_1802.asp?keywords=flatbed
I originally purchased it to haul scrapbooking supplies in and out of my vehicle during retreat weekends. Now I use it for everything heavy or bulky (bringing coffee supplies to Bible study, dropping off clothing donations, unloading garden supplies, loading/unloading gifts during the holidays, etc.). Not only does it reduce the need for extra trips, it makes life a whole lot easier. (The last thing I need is acne, wrinkles, AND a bad back.)
My favorite thing lately is Pur Minerals makeup. Its that minerals stuff, but it comes in a compact so you can keep it in your purse! All the other ones I have found are loose powder.
Also, I share your gene. The absolute worst was when I needed to purchase some Monistat.... I just could NOT do it! My sweet husband finally had to go buy it for me! The worst part... it was for a diaper rash situation, not what you would assume!!
Hey there...I was just thinking about how my Mother was a firm believer in Oil of Olay...well I love their Definity series and honestly saw the pale brown dryness patches on my over 40 skin fade in appearance. Plus I have been in the check-out lane and needed a price check from a high school age boy for Gylenol- well at least he and the bag boy got a chuckle that day :)!
My skin has been going whacko lately too, and I just traded in all my scented lotions, moisturizers, etc. for Aveeno. They have a calming wash for your face, moisturizer with herbs in it, and a great body wash, too.
I don't know if the calming wash actually calms anything, but it sure makes me feel better while I am washing.
If I continue with the teenage/40ish wackiness, I am headed to WM for the acne free products. Thanks for sharing, Lysa.
I do the exact same thing with feminine products at the grocery store right down to hiding it under my frozen pizza! I can't think of a new product that makes my life easier, but I can say that I love Bare Minerals make up. It hides a multitude of less than perfect skin conditions. Have a great day!
I'll share a quick story my mother said she "witnessed" once, a long, long time ago. I cannot guarantee it's authenticity. You would understand, though, if you had ever met my mother.
While standing in the grocery line, checking out, a young mother, looking flustered, was overheard saying out loud "Oh my, I forgot to get tampax." The bagger chirped, "Don't worry, I'll get them for you."
A moment later he came back. "Do you want the kind you push in with your thumb, or drive in with a hammer?"
He thought she had said "thumbtacks."

Well, it's not a product but a new discovery for me...a flat iron. Since I have stick-straight hair, I thought I would never be needing one.
Curly-haired, flat-iron lovin' people, I have seen the glory.
Sigh...my thick, mushroomy (shaped) hair has some attitude now...ha.
I triple love it. :)
Hands down, my new favorite product is Oil of Olay In-Shower Body Lotion. Saves time and smells great!
My most recent discovery is Arbonne. Pure, safe, beneficial. I signed up to get their 35% discount and now am a little over zealous sometimes :0) Love, love their RE9 skin care... my almost 40year old wrinkles are a bit smoother, the blotchiness is faded and my face feels like a baby's bottom (feels, not smells!!). They also have a wonderful acne line called Clear Advantage which I hear has been a miracle to many. No toxins, petroleum, mineral oil or added fragrances that can irritate skin and allergies!
Anyone can email me directly at dawntugman@windstream.net to get more info.
Healthy Blessing ya'll! Dawn
Your post cracked me up. I have to say though, being the mom of three boys, I don't take extra care to 'hide' the feminine stuff because I know one day they are going to get married and will need to 'know' about this stuff.... we haven't really talked about it either, but ok, enough....
ANYWAY! Thank you so much for the product. I do, in fact, share your gene and haven't found the answer yet, I'm all over this, will let you know how it goes!
Oh my... Thank you for the laughs this morning lady.
I too am a hider and and woman cashier seeker.
I can add to the embarrassing items to purchase, condomns. Now, you can buy them online, so I haven't had to buy in a store in a while. But, I always had a friend go with me for support and courage. I am married and didn't know why I was so embarrased to buy them. I tried every kind of birth control known to man, and nothing worked (they all made me sick) but condoms. With 3 kids... You better believe I have those in stock.

Lysa-why should we put those poor guys through that anyway? I had to buy my 10 year old a special bra for her Easter dress and she about died when I went to the cashier line where there was a boy. It hadn't crossed my mind but seeing her hide behind the candy stands made me quickly change lines for her sake!
I took care of a little old lady patient of mine in the early 80's that had the most beautiful skin I ever saw. Even the cancer that was ravagening her body could not take that beautiful face skin away-she glowed. She used Oil of Olay and I have been faithful to use it ever since. I still don't have her skin but it is good for me. My daughter has used Proactive and it was worked wonders! It has been worth every penny. I wish I had that when I was in 8th grade-that picture is horrifying!! When it comes down to it...the inner beauty sure outshines all the material things we do to beautify the outside, doesn't it? May we all radiate Jesus today!!
You are a blessing!
In His Graces~Pamela

I am also a huge fan of Arbonne's RE-9. I had to sell a kidney in order to buy it, but I have great skin now!
I'm also now hooked on a new mascara... Maybelline XXL. It is white and black; you put a white layer on first that extends the lashes and then the brown/black mascara. It actually makes a difference. My high school girlies introduced me to it and I'm a believer.
I'm one of the three that can definitely use these products so I'll head out to Wally World. I was just lamenting over my teenage looking face today and wondered if I would be a grandma with acne one day. "They" said it would go away at 20. "They" said it would go away at 40. "They" were wrong and "they" were also wrong about it preventing wrinkles! I'm not even going to ask "them" if it will be gone by 60 or 80 since "they" don't know what "they're" talking about anyway.
By the way, I'm going grocery shopping today and I can assure you that I will buy a frozen pizza if for no other purpose than to hide "said" products. And I never ever go to the store and buy "said" products by themselves. I always buy something along with them. I mean what would people think if that's all I had in my cart!
Hey Lysa..
I too hide my feminine products in my cart. I don't care about the gender of the cashier, cause I am usually so ready to get out of the store.
I am quite fond of Jane Iredale mineral make up. I love the base. It is not a loose powder like others are. Its a bit pricey, about $50, but, I don't wear make up every day, so it lasts me about 6 months.
If ANYONE out there has a GREAT undereye/eye cream for bags, dark circles and wrinkles, PLEASE let me know!! I can't find one that works well. I did try a sample of DHC and I think that might be good, but the sample ran out too soon to tell good.
Lysa..did you try ProActive for your skin? My husband has used the Acne Free brand that you are using, it worked well at first, but he says it burns his skin now and he just can't take it. I told him to try ProActive.
Yall have a great day! Go to my blog and get a recipe if you have time.
Blessings~Alyce
Ha Ha! I'm so glad I'm not the only almost 39er still hiding stuff. When I go with my two young boys, they ask loudly "is that what you use to wipe yourself with mom?" Why yes, yes it is!!
I really like Mary Kay's hand lotion. They also have a night cream that works well to heal sunburned faces and chapped lips.
Alyce,
Bare Minerals has a powder for undereye circles called "well rested". It works!
I hate exercising - but I was determined to do something since I turned 40 in March. Since I'm not super coordinated to do aerobics, I started doing a walking video (Leslie Sansone). At first I could only walk 1 mile, then 2, then 3, then after a month I could walk the entire 4 miles! In a little over a month I lost 10 lbs without having to "dance" around, or go to a club. I was in my own living room. And I feel so much better about myself now, and I look good and my husband said my "attitude" is better. So I'd have to say that was a great "product" for me.

p.s. Lysa - your picture looks BEAUTIFUL with neither wrinkles nor acne, and your ankles look great too. (I did too see them! On your rainy day running blog!). More importantly you are beautiful on the inside.
But since I did turn 40 in March, I like to joke that the proverbs 31 writer (bible, not your website) was correct - beauty is fleeting! haha!
I have found a wonderful solution to the dreaded feminine problem! I bought the Diva cup almost a year ago and there is NO going back!! It's really great for travel too!
www.divecup.com
I think I would cry if I had to go back to tampons and pads after using this!
I have loved reading all of your recent blogs and hearing you speak this last weekend in AZ. God is doing amazing work through you!
Cute story!!! :)
To I don't want to use my name....I, too, was extremely embarrassed to buy condomns. After all, I was married; however, we were in that in between time of just having a baby and getting back on the pill. I felt like the cashier would think I was a loose girl OR see my wedding band and think I was cheating. Oh the tricks the devil plays on our minds. Tries to make us embarrassed or guilty when there is no need. Hmmph!
A great product for curly hair is Magnifier by Texture Loreal. I find it in the hair salons located in Walmart. It's about $15 a bottle, but you don't have to use much and it really does define your curls and make the frizzies die down. I LOVE it! :)
Also, the moisturizing lip balm from Avon is the BOMB! It's light and doesn't taste yucky. It's even husband tasted and approved! :) hehehe
Love y'all! Prayers and Blessings!
Rebecca
I went to a dermatologist a couple of times to get a handle on my acne. He recommended "Gloves in a Bottle" which is a more natural-type of moisturizer put on each night and morning. I went on minocycline for a while, too. But now I stick to the lotion plus the most gentle face wash I can find (Neutrogena Extra Gentle Cleanser). And that's it - my face is finally more balanced and less oily. *Almost* no acne. I still love Maybelline's Great Lash brown/black mascara (and I've tried a LOT of mascaras!) but a primer does help, too. I like Physician's Formula makeup - especially their loose powder which comes in a handy thing that puts the makeup on the built-in brush for you. Love all these ideas!
Anonymous posted about the "divecup". I couldn't find it online so decided to search "Diva Cup" www.divacup.com Read about it, sounds interesting, willing to give it a try. Since it's good to go green these days this definitely sounds like an innovative product.
It would take me all day to list my favorite life changing, time saving products. I have drawers full of kitchen gadgets that I adore, A dresser full of Spanx that lift and firm, and a vanity full of makeup that shimmers and hides. But my all time, most favorite, miracle product of the century is Mary Kay's Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover. This stuff really is liquid gold ya'll. I don't sell it and am not making a sales pitch. This is the only product I buy from MK and I buy gallons at a time. I've tried everything else and this stuff is the bomb. One time I ran out so I went and bought a quick fix remover off of the shelf. Within a week my eyes were dry and I began to see those fine lines around my eyes. Ladies if you're using soap and a rag to clean those eyes, STOP! Don't stretch out that delicate skin.
I too was getting adult acne on my jawline. I signed up as a consultant for BeautiControl for the discount & because of how clear my skin is I now sell it. It has changed my skin big time. I mix the products though...use the cleanser from the 30's Gold line since I'm still 37 then the toner from the acne All Clear line. I also use ProLeif Balancing Cream from Arbonne. All wonderful stuff that has made my hormones behave. Fun getting compliments on my skin.
This was fun, thanks Lysa.
I feel the same way about "products". Find me a girl cashier please!
Best foot cream on the pla-net
BURT'S BEES COCONUT FOOT CREAM!!
Oops! I mentioned the wrong embarrassing thing I had to have a price check on...I don't know what Gylenol is...Gynol was the stuff I turned beet red on...and now never buy it in grocery stores! And since I am on the subject of pregnancy...Bag Balm...great for stretch marks in pregnancy!
It seems that my teen gene failed to recede (I'm 41) because I would get zits whenever that time of the month came around up until last year when I started using Cetaphil. A dermatologist receommended this and it works great!
I guess I have jusst gotten to the place in life where I just don't care who sees what I purchase. I place my little box of o.b. in my shopping cart and stroll all over Wal-mart. I don't look for a female cashier....I just look for the shortest line.
I think I passed this attitude on to my daughter. She can stroll around Wal-mart or the CVS or Walgreens with a package of Playtex tampons in her basket and doesn't let it bother her.
My husband doesn't mind going to buy the o.b. for me. He says it shows the world that he's got a lady in his life and he's proud to be taking care of her!! I've been with him several times when I needed to purchase o.b. and he was the one that ended up carrying it. His choice.
It's a part of our lives, so why hide it?? Next time you're shopping, be brave. Don't hide it & go to a male cashier!!
Kn knock on wood--I've never had an acne problem...so can't comment on that.
Tinted moisturizer from Mary Kay. I'm not much into make-up during the week, and this stuff has really changed the way I feel about going "make-upless" in public. Just enough color and lots of moisture to give me a glow.
Absolutely LOVE IT!
peace~elaine
i am the same way. I had the products in my cart and search for a female cashier and blush when a male bagger shows up!!
I LOVE arbonne.
Great idea Lysa! Well, I do love the new Starbucks Honey Latte. :)
I still hide my feminine products too. Too funny.
I love Jergens Natural Glow tanning lotion. It doesn't streak, stain my hands or anything. I am so very very white but slowly I start to look healthier and tanner. I need to start using it again soon as the sunshine is coming out!
What a fun post! I like reading what products other ladies treasure. Here are some of mine that I think I can't live without:
Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer in Watermelon or Rhubarb
Mary Kay mineral powder foundation (absolutely amazing...with MK tinted moisturizer underneath)
ActiveOn balm for my aching shoulders...works surprisingly well!
Lipton Green Tea to Go - Yum.
And Dawn Direct Foam dish washing stuff. Love it!
Blessings, J
I wonder if we EVER grow out of hiding those. I HATE even having to go in that isle and in some stores shampoo and soap are in the same isle.... See my dilema.
The last 6 weeks have been crazy for me. I think it is stress. But it has been weird enough that I called the doctor and they said to just keep watching.... I got a very light, very very light visitation and 13 days later I got the heaviest visit of my life (we won't go in to details but it was really awful) and 2 weeks later it seems as if it is coming again! That is just totally unfair and uncool and all of that! So, yes, I am visiting that isle tonight. Sigh.
Never had much problem with acne but the gray hairs are starting to overwhelm me. They are all in little patches at the front. I keep plucking but I'm starting to fear I'll make a bald patch! And having very dark hair --- everything shows!
So, God, if you are listening -- Why are gray hair and wrinkles and acne necessary?
:) I see that I did spell "diva" wrong for the address as Wrinkled Shirt Ministries pointed out! Sorry about that! It is Divacup.com and it really is wonderful! I like the going green idea too!
Here's my list of things I'm embarrassed to purchase: feminine products, condoms or such, pregnancy tests, and Monistat. I don't know why, because I've given birth to 5 beautiful children with herds of unknown people observing. For some reason, though, I'm afraid the cashier will judge me (for what, being happily married?!). We are silly girls. :)
There was once a product that made me so happy (but I can't find it anymore). It was tint (or dye) for the eyebrows. You could do it yourself! For girls like me who's hair got darker with age, but brows stayed blonde, tinting is a necessity! But what a bummer to pay $20 every three weeks. I LOVED that stuff!
I adore Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer, I have it in like 6 colors, but Rhubarb and the reddish brown, oh, I can't think of the color, are my faves. Here are a few more of my faves....
I love Aussie Hair products. I have wavy hair and I can tame the frizzies and make it lay flat with Sydney Smooth rubbed through my wet hair. I also use the Dual Personality (had a bit of trouble with the name) for hairspray. It holds my style and makes my hair smooth and shiny. On curly hair days I use Aussie Sprunch.
My flat iron. I thank my hair dresser all the time for introducing me to it!!!!
Cover Girl EyeSlicks pencils, like eyeshadow but pencils!!!
That's enough!
I don't have acne, but I do have a nasty pimple looking red rash, a cross between rosascea and acne, on just one cheek....no idea why, bummer...
I love that you're such a real girl but so intensely in love and in tune with God....
Leanne in Longview WA
This is too uncanny. Just this morning while I was slapping on my wrinkle creams I was pondering as to how at age 38 I could have so many pimples. And then I opened your entry today and see I am not alone and it is not such a strange phenomenon.
I am actually a missionary in Argentina and make a list of "must haves" for my next visit to the States. Looks like this one is going on the list!
Thanks for the recommendation and for putting a smile on my face each day. I am either laughing with you or simply enjoying the greatness of our God along with you.
Thank you for using the talents He has given you for His glory!

Don't you wonder how those poor male cashiers (especially if they are 16-20 yr. olds) feel when they have to actually pick the box up?! I wouldn't want to be in their shoes! If I'm really feeling the PMS I almost mentally dare them to look me in the eye! (which is totally not my normal personality)
As for the wrinkles and acne issue ... I have discovered a book that has answered many of my skin questions and truly changed my complexion.
"Don't Go to the Cosmetic Counter Without Me" by Paula Begoun
She does a good job dispelling the myths of skin care and marketing ploys.
I love this post today.I have had those embarassing moments of not wanting to go through a check out lane at Food Lion when buying those little necessaties of life.
Here are some products I recommend.
Arizona Tea bags in the Green Tea with Pomegranate & Acai flavor--it is delicious!
Bella Balm -foot and hand creme Wonderful! It is a natural creme with a very lite herbal scent made by Scent-Sations (I am a SS distributor). It got me through the winter this year. I normally get very cracked (and painful)skin around my finger nails, but not this year. Great on your feet too! This creme is the best! We are suppose to come out with a natural lip balm this year--can't wait for that!
I love using Oil of Olay and when I feel like splurging I love using Mary Kay skin care products. Great stuff--all of it!
Latanya Wagner

I know my husband loves me when he'll go to the store to get a box of tampons!
What is the deal with this acne, anyway? I can't get rid of it, either, at 42! I'm seeing a dermatologist who prescribes creams that just flake and irritate my skin. The treatment makes me look worse than the acne!
My grandmother had such beautiful skin and she used a cheap jar of Ponds each night. I wonder...
Well, I turned 40 yesterday and I am EXACTLY the same way with the feminine products. If that's all I need at the store, well, I buy more items to cover them up in the basket.
I mean everyone needs them so why should we be ashamed?! We should carry them proudly to the counter and plop em' down. I'll blame it all on our Sista' Eve from the garden.
A new happy hair item that I use pretty regularly is Aussie deep conditioner. Tames the ol' frizzy hair down just a bit and then for a finishing touch, Aussie 12-hour humidity spray. Great products for the humid days in the South!
Oh yeah... the best part of the book is that it's a great reference because it lists most of the products from most of the major cosmetic companies. I like to look up the products I already own.
Mary Kay products, and yes I am a consultant. If youladies will stop by my blog lexianddaltonsnanna.blogspot.com I will try to post some pictures of my before and after skin. I would never have gotten into this business if the product had not of worked for me and my oily complection.
Okay-I am sooo glad I popped over here. I tell my husband ALL the time that CLEAN SHOWER should be on the best poduct of all times.
I only have to scrub my showers and doors maybe once every couple of months. I do a quick wipe down every couple of weeks in between. This stuff rocks!
You'll really notice it if you have the plain see thru doors, but it works wanders on any shower and tub surface. All you do is spray down the area right after your shower. It even works on the curtains.
DO NOT use on refinished tubs, natural stone, or natural marble.
You won't be sorry you used this product!!!
You are hilarious. I am not 39, but 27. I still get embarrased when buying femine products; though I am not as bad as when I was a teenager. When I was a teenager I hated my period. I think it has something to do with getting my period during summer camp and not telling anybody. My grandma found out when she did my laundry. It was so embarrassing and it was my worse year at summer camp.
oh and for my acne my obgyn perscribed me something for it since whatever it is is safe for me to use. It has made a lot of difference.
I have to say....I only get imbarrased and want to crawl under the cash when I buy femine products AND a chocolate bar....All I can think about is that the cashier is saying...."Yup shes buying these for herself for sure"...they seem to go hand in hand...LOL!! Thanks for the fun read today Lysa!!
Cruel joke, it is. I'm loving my Mary Kay. Also, pretty religious about Neutrogena's non-oily sunscreen. And Oil of Olay's Quench for the body. Oh, Yeah - and also some kind of cream from the dermatologist to ward off acne, because yes, I am getting wrinkles along with my acne. :-(
I'm almost 49 and still get monthly acne. A product I started using a while back, and now I've see it recommended in several magazines, is Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Anti-Blemish. There's a face wash, a face scrub and moisturizers. It works wonders for both problems. I alternate that with Body Shop Moisture White to help with the brown splotches.
The Neutrogena is reasonably priced and can be found at any drug/variety store.
Tea Tree Oil Shampoo. I have had psoriasis since I was a little girl. This takes care of my scalp and the psoriasis, and also is great for my hair. Love it!
This sounds like me to a tee. Wrinkles and acne. *sigh*
My favorite recent discovery is my mineral powder makeup. LURV it!!
xo ~K
ANY mascara by Rimmel is outstanding! I curl my lashes (once at the base and once halfway up), apply Rimmel and ta-da! My boring, fairly short and light lashes are thick and long.
Tracey
I have to agree with Dawn T.... Arbonne - ALL of their products are amazing. I had some sort of weird dry, scaly, itchy, red thing smack in the middle of my forehead! Horrible! Nothing I tried helped. I did not want to go to the dermatologist and get on steroid creams. I tried Arbonne's Rejuvenating Cream and it cleared it up completely in 3 days! Their products have no chemical dyes or fragrances, no yucky animal by-products, no very-bad-for-you mineral oil, and they WORK! My whole family uses their products.
My absolutely favorite products are Enfuselle skin care line by Shaklee. They are absolutely awesome. I have used them since I turned 30(I am 36 now) and they must work because people say I look like I am in my 20s! They are natural products which only makes it the best of the best. I can give you info on where to find more info at jssteury@verizon.net
I love your blogs, Lysa. You make me feel so normal!
