This blog is written by my mom as dictated by Brooke TerKeurst:
Last Thursday Hope, Ashley and I went to Washington D.C. on a school field trip. We rode the train. After one hour I was so excited I couldn't wait for the rest of the trip. Then after one more hour I was like... no way. No more. I was ready to get off that train. After 9 hours and 24 minutes I was so excited because I thought it was time to get off. Then suddenly they made an announcement that would be delayed. After waiting 2 hours, we were back on our way but it was a long trip.
We finally got to Washington DC and then had to ride the subway for 30 more minutes. Finally we got to our hotel.
Then next morning, we woke up and headed to the White House. We only got to tour a small part of the White House. At one point we saw a curtain. Our tour guide said that was the part that led to where the President's living quarters were. He also said we would not get to meet the president. Oh well.
Me and my friends went upstairs and heard gasps coming from our group downstairs. We rushed back down to where they all were and they said they just saw Mrs. Bush!
Suddenly, Mrs. Bush came back out to where we were. She looked right at me and asked my name. She said. "Brooke is a beautiful name." I got to shake her hand and she asked if we would please pray for the president. She then told us that the President was about to fly off in his helicopter and we could go upstairs and wave good bye to him. It was such an amazing thing!
I later told some of my friends that I might not ever wash that hand again!
One thing is for sure... I will never forget my tour of the White House.

Lysa: How cool is that! Although, now my childhood story of who I got to meet in Washington DC pales in comparison. Any "Family Ties" Fans out there? Do you remember the nerdy neighbor named Skippy? I still pause when I wash the hand that shook his. Smiles!
