A Chance for You to Get Published
Oh my stars- oh my stars.

That's what I say when I'm excited. And I'm really, really, excited.

I mean so much so I'm having a hard time waiting to announce something that I have to wait to announce until next Monday. But it is hard to wait. I desperately want to give you a clue- a hint- a little something. But I can't. Just know that you will be so excited about what I will announce next week. At least I think you'll be excited. If you are not, just pretend you are.

Because friends do that you know. Like when they open an obviously regifted item- but we covered that yesterday so let's move on. Did I mention that I'm excited?

Okay- breathe. I am also excited about something we have going on today too! You have a chance to enter a contest to be published in the P31 Woman Magazine. This is a great step for any writer as our magazine is not only read by over 6,000 women each month but is also read by publishers! Last year one of our writers celebrated having a book published by Harvest House Publishers because of an article she wrote in the P31 woman Magazine.

So, here is what you should do:

* Leave a link to your blog in the comments section below. Also, put in your comment one sentence that describes what your article is about. Then post your article by Friday. We'll have a team of people reading your blogs this weekend to pick the winner. Not only will you have a chance to get published but it will probably drive extra traffic to your site if others are interested in your topic!

* Now, before you run off to start writing, or pulling your favorite blog post out and reposting it because it is one of the most favorite things you've ever written (which is perfectly fine and probably what I'd do)--- you must first read the writer's guidelines over here at Glynnis' blogsite. And leave her a comment too~

* Now, what if you don't have a blog on which to post your writing masterpiece? Go ahead and post in the comments below- the title of your article, a few sentences explaining what it's about, and an e-mail or website address by which we could easily contact you. If the topic and description is one that catches the publishing team's attention, we'll contact you.

We'll announce the winner on Monday. Along with my other very exciting thing--- that I'm very excited about--- but I think I might have mentioned that already.

And I'm sure you are wondering who the winner is from yesterday's book giveaway??? This was done in the most official, random method, I can assure you. The winner is--- Mel from Mel's World Blog- this girl seriously loves books! Hey, Mel let me know which one of my books you'd like to add to your collection.

Happy Writing!

Lysa,
What a wonderful contest! Such motivation to record what God has done in our lives!

My article is entitled "Addie, Our Pet Rock" and deals with how the stones in Joshua 4 were the inspiration for the response of our family to a crisis. A few months ago our Goldendoodle Addie was very ill. I was worried that we would lose this precious pet who "dogged" my every footstep, as well as what this loss might do to the budding faith of my toddler and four-year-old. God worked through my fear to show me His will and how an Old Testament story could be put to use in our family today.

I do not have a blog, but I would consider it such a privilege, Lysa, if you would read my article. Thank you again for this impetus to write!

Hi Lysa!

I am sooooo excited about this contest and opportunity to share what God is laying on my heart. You have been kind enough to view my blog, hisinvitation.blogspot.com, and I am inviting anyone who reads your blog to visit mine if that is okay with you.

For the contest, I would like to submit one of my three favorite devotional blogs - "Believe Big, Believe Him," "Madly, Deeply," or "If I Sat With You Today." It is amazing what happens when you ask God to bless you. I did that this morning and all kinds of blessings and opportunities are being showered upon me.

I pray that if nothing else, those who read His Invitation, will be blessed and moved by the love of God.

Enjoy!

Oh fun!! I can't wait to read everyone's "articles".!!

Blessings!

Aw man! I don't want to wait until Monday!! Really, I need more patience :)

Question for you though, and I hope this doesn't come across as prideful because it's just as much for everyone else as it is for me.

I've read in some writing groups that most publishers want first rights (or not reprints) of an article for their magazine. I've also read debates on whether posting an article on a blog or website is really publishing it or not.

I think you are going to get some great articles and maybe you'll be able to pick more than 1 -- or maybe not, but I was wondering how that might affect the ones who aren't published in your magazine. Do you think other publishers would discount the article because it was published on a blog?

This is a great opportunity and I think it's absolutely awesome that you've opened this up. That thought had just been nagging me though :) With the majority of us being new writers, I'd hope we wouldn't do anything to hurt our options in being published in the future.

Blogger Laura said...

Oh, I was just going to read everyone else's then decided after you said you would just use an old post, I would too.

Wow Lysa! Now I'M EXCITED too :)

What a wonderful opportunity to share God's faithfulness in our lives with others! Thank you for having the contest :)

I would love for you to consider "Sixty Minutes to a Miracle". It's a piece I wrote 5 years ago this month after my mom suffered a major stroke and made a full recovery. God used this trial in our lives to once again demonstrate His everlasting love and faithfulness. I would be honored to be able to share it with others in the hope that they would be encouraged and uplifted by seeing what God can do in our lives. He is still in the miracle business, my dear mom is proof of that :) She's still going strong 5 years later!

Great Question Lisa B-

After consulting with some people, typically if you write something on a blog it is not considered "published" and most editors don't have a problem with it. However, I'm sure there might be exceptions to this. so, the safest bet is to let your editor know that it has appeared on your blog. Then of course in the same breath you can add how many wonderful comments you got about it and it might actually help you and not hurt you-

Happy Writing Everyone- your ideas sound great.

And thanks to the many people who have posted a link back to this post on your blog so your readers can have a shot at this as well. Now that is some serious sisterly love!

Lysa,
Thank you for the wonderful opportunity to submit an article idea. I realize you pre-plan much of your magazine so I am stepping out on a limb and submitting an idea with a Christmas theme.

The article is "Grace in the Midst of Doubts" and discusses how God so graciously touches us through times of doubt. (In this case, through the evangelism of a five-year old who believed his classmate needed to know more about Christmas than "just Santa Claus" and a mom who doubted.)

I can safely say the article touches on P31 principles three and seven.

Again, thank you for your consideration.
Kristen M.
kmspeaking@yahoo.com

Thanks Lysa for the clarification on that :) I hope to get many comments on my article -- good or bad, they will help me grow in my writing!

I'm getting psyched about Monday ... biggest rock? hit me? must be something about casting stones at sins -- so maybe being convicted of not yelling at the girls? or trying to tell them not to do something you yourself have been doing? I don't do coffee, but I love riddles :)

Lysa! I'm excited!! I have three thoughts-can't seem to get it off my mind today. I have also been praying about this and God brought to my mind two classes I use to teach a couple of years ago. I may not be able to pull these notebooks out until the weekend but here are the topics:
(1) "Jesus Wept"-looks at 9-12 stressors Christ faced in His journey and examines how He handled those stressors. Very scripture oriented.
(2) "Nutrients for the Body and Soul" looks at the levels of the food pyramid from a physical and spiritual perspective (I know you have nutritional items in your magazine). For example, the value of water and the Living Water of our Lord. I developed this for an Sunday evening class at my church about 5 years ago and I will need to condense and update! It would fit best in smaller articles over multiple months.
(3) the "Burnt Dinner Roll" blog from my site this month is a subject I would like to address further. I was reminded of this becasue I burnt the bottom of our rolls tonight for dinner (but my hearts as fresh as ever for my Lord!).
Okay...I hope I have not been too bold. It's just too exciting to think about!

Hi Lysa,

The article/blog entry that I'd like to enter for the contest can be found at this link:

http://cindybeall.wordpress.com/2008/01/17/building-a-man/

It is about a situation that occurred with my youngest son, the frustration I experienced and the truth that God shared with me. I then use this illustration as a tool to help challenge the reader to "not grow weary in doing good" as he/she perseveres in this thing called life.

I have not ever published it. You are welcome to use it in it's entirety as well as make any necessary editing. The word count is 769.

This is a great idea. How awesome for your team to do this for a budding author.

Also at www.InnerBeautyGirlz.blogspot.com I'll post about letting our inner beauty shine, possibly some natural beauty tips and/or devotional thoughts on true beauty.

Guess I better get writing!!!

Hi Lysa,

How fun! Thanks for the opportunity. My topic is "Can I Learn to Love My Neighbor?" I share how a chance encounter with a rude stranger in a store challenged my commitment to "love thy neighbor." Small annoyances can often be the harder tests to pass.
I don't have a blog page, so please email me at wildirishprose@sbcglobal.net if you'd like to read the entire reflection.

Sorry to say I don't have a blog - yet! So....
"Always With You -A true story"...how the Lord 'spoke' in a very personal, creative way - through a malfunction in my printer to be specific. The singular saying "ALWAYS WITH YOU" mysteriously printed on a single page of paper, letters half formed and upside down. The message? That whatever burden we may have, perhaps by turning it around and looking at life a little differently will allow us to see Him in our circumstances and be thankful for His presence.

Blogger CrownLaidDown said...

Oh, I read more carefully :) I will post it on Friday again. It is about the mirror we use to see ourselves in every day.

Dear Mrs. TerKeurst,

Thank you for this opportunity and time in considering my writing for the P31 Magazine. My blog is:

http://blog.encouragedinheart.org

The writing I am submitting is, "Digging for the Nugget". It is about two things many women have and love - chocolate and emotions - and that God is in the center of both!

I believe this will encourage your readers and fits well into the First of the Seven Principles of the Proverbs 31 Woman. I give permission to use this writing in the format you deem worthy.

I would appreciate any feedback (if there is time remaining between finding your camera, wisely regifting and singing the

So, I am posting three short devotional type articles. The first one is entitled, "Poo-Poo Prayer," and is about what can be learned about our relationship with God, through potty training a child. The second, which may be good for the edition prior to Mother's day, is entitled, "Mom's Best Gift," and is about how my Mother's passing brought me back home to the loving arms of my Savior. And finally, my third piece is entitled, "Me do," and relates yet another example of how my son constantly challenges me to grow in my walk with the Lord.

Blessings to you Lysa, and good luck to everyone!

Lysa
I hope it doesn't matter that the topic of my entry ended up being different from what I had originally said it would be! I decided to post about my fear of submission and what God showed me--it's called "Trust and Obey"!
Thanks again for the opportunity.
Love in Him,
Amy Hale

Hi my name is Charlene and I loved your devotion on surrendering totally to God.
I'm learning to trust the Lord right now and wanted to thank you for letting me know that It may take tears but a whole lot of obedience too.

My Church Living Faith Christian Center in Pennsauken just told us in order to learn anything from God I must get into his presence
and everyday I get into his presence I learn something new
Now the practical just like you is what I need now and I get scared of the unknown sometime too.

Hi Lysa,

"The Case for Color" is a story about how my decision to dye my hair almost landed me in the psychiatrist's office, but instead.. (you'll have to read the story for the rest!).
