Most of you are familiar with how my beautiful sons came into my life. If you are not familiar with this story, click on the Oprah Show tab above and watch both part one and part two of our interview. God brought our boys home in an amazing way. But I have to admit, it was not an easy decision or one we took lightly.
Basically, when it came right down to it, we adopted our boys out of pure obedience to God. We said yes to God’s invitation to become Mark and Jackson’s parents not because we felt like it, not because it was part of our plan, not because we had enough white space in our schedules, and definitely not because we had all the money in the world to fund two international adoptions. We brought them home because God told us to do it.
So, four and a half years later, it might be natural to ask me if we regret being obedient to God in this situation. Very few people would be bold enough to ask, but I bet many have wondered.
I can tell you, I’ve never once regretted saying yes. I love my boys and can not imagine my life without them. Sure there have been hard days. But I have hard days with my biological kids. Sure it is stressful being responsible for 5 busy, unique kids. But I love it!
I remember about a year before we met our boys, a question started rumbling around in my soul: “How can I truly be a woman of faith, if I live a life that requires no faith.” It took huge faith in God to adopt our boys. It takes huge faith to raise 5 kids everyday. But how I love living a life that requires daily faith.
So, I live, love, laugh, press on, and choose obedience over and over again as a woman with no regrets!
