Sometimes I think about the game my husband played with our girls when they were little. They would stand on the end of our very tall bed and when Art gave the nod, they would fling there bodies toward him fully confident that his strong arm would catch them every time. But they didn’t start out confident. I remember their first time jumping was truly nothing but a leap of faith.
Art would stand on the end of the bed and assure them repeatedly, “I’ll catch you. Just jump sweetheart. I’ll be here. Look my arms are almost touching you now. Now jump.” Eventually, each of my girls did jump. And their Daddy was there to catch them every time.
Interestingly, after their first successful jump, they each had the very same reaction. “Do it again, Daddy! Do it again!” Off they would go to scamper up the side of the bed and run to the edge. Without hesitation they would jump and giggle with glee as Art caught them and swung them around in victory of their daring feat.
I think that’s the way it is with taking spiritual leaps of faith as well. What has God been calling you to the edge of lately? Have you heard Him cheer you on with full assurance that He’ll be right there? Take it from one who is now scampering back around screaming, “Do it again, Daddy! Do it again,” God has caught me every time. And there is no sweeter place to be then in the middle of my Daddy’s strong embrace.
Maybe that’s why Proverbs chapter 31 describes the portrait of a godly woman as one who laughs at the days to come. She was no edge dweller. This gal was often found being swung around in God’s arms giggling with glee in victory of leaping.
Jump, sweetheart, jump.
This blog is dedicated the wonderful women I spent time with this weekend. To my new friends in Tampa, FL at Idlewild Baptist and my friends in Virginia Beach, VA at London Bridge Baptist Church. What a joy it was to spend time getting to know you all!
And the winner of my book giveaway from this weekend is… Katie Miller from Lutz, FL! Post in the comments box which of my books you would like and I'll send it out right away. Congrats!
